District clarifies curriculum trip and outlines Camp Invention, robotics and author visits

Dr Russo told the board Jan. 21 that the kindergarten field trip referenced in a prior update will visit the academy rather than the Stone Otis house and explained how the activity ties to the social studies unit comparing past and present in the Orange community.
Separately, Dr Russo described paid summer enrichment options: Camp Invention will be offered for two weeks starting June 16 (8 a.m.–12 p.m. with aftercare available through 4:15 p.m.); Lego robotics programming is planned for current fourth‑through‑sixth graders the weeks of July 7 and July 14; and districtwide author visits are being scheduled, with Nick Brule confirmed for Feb. 11 at MLT. Flyers and newsletter postings will include registration details and costs.
Trustees asked if summer offerings will include supports for students who receive specialized services during the school year. Dr Russo clarified that extended school year services for eligible students (under IDEA) are provided through the district's special‑education processes and are not part of the paid Camp Invention offering.
The board also was reminded that preschool lottery registration for Orange residents closes Jan. 29, and instructions are available on the district website or via Special Services.
