Dr. Fletcher briefed the board on changing student demographics and special needs: multilingual-learner enrollment is rising and, by the state's measure, approximately 40% of students meet the definition of 'high needs.' Administrators said they plan to expand supports and realign resources to meet those needs.
The presenters flagged an outlier on the accountability index: a low physical-fitness participation score (about 19.9 points out of 50). They said the shortfall most likely reflects reporting or scheduling issues—such as when the fitness exam is offered during certain semesters or whether all eligible students were recorded as participating—and committed to investigating and correcting the data.
Board members asked for disaggregated data and distribution by school for multilingual learners and high-needs students; staff said they would supply specifics after the meeting. Administrators also outlined next steps to share results with staff, continue PLC work on high-quality instruction, and prepare for upcoming Smarter Balanced and SAT assessments.
