Supervisors renew one-year mental-health coordinator agreement with Clinton County

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors voted on June 23 to renew a one-year agreement with Clinton County to continue shared mental-health coordinator services through June 30, 2027. Len Burkin, representing Community Services for Clinton and Jackson County, told the board the agreement is a date-update of an existing contract and that the shared arrangement helps manage costs and maintain services in both counties.
Burkin said the region lost some prior flexibility when funding structures changed and that the county now sees stricter eligibility thresholds from state contractors; that has made supports such as sliding-scale payments less available. He said the two counties collaborate to fill gaps, especially transportation and short-term rent assistance needed to help people leave institutional settings and rejoin the community.
Board members thanked staff for maintaining continuity after the transition and noted that continuing the arrangement reduces local tax burden by splitting costs with Clinton County. A motion to approve the 280 agreement was moved, seconded and approved by unanimous voice vote.
