Jaynes said the funds include a buyout of the outgoing director’s unused vacation and urged timely action to avoid rising material and labor costs affecting pending projects. Commissioner Ginger Holdren and others pressed for a stricter job advertisement emphasizing government experience; Holdren said she and Director Burke had been drafting an ad with those requirements and asked for a special called meeting to finalize qualifications.
The motion included line-item allocations recorded in the meeting minutes for payroll and benefit accounts. Commissioners voting against the appropriation expressed concern about approving funds before finalizing the job description and hiring process.
The commission instructed staff to prepare a position advertisement and to return with proposed qualifications; a special called meeting was referenced for further consideration.
