Natick COA Board asks staff to investigate registering for Active Aging Week; motion passes unanimously

The Town of Natick Council on Aging Board voted unanimously Feb. 9 to ask Council on Aging staff to investigate registering the center for Active Aging Week, a national campaign held Oct. 5–11 that offers free outreach tools through the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA). Mark Frankel moved the board direct staff to investigate registration and Christine ("Chris") Weithman seconded; the motion passed 11-0.
Donna Tarutz, director of Council on Aging & Human Services, said she will begin investigating the registration process upon her return from medical leave and warned the board that registration must occur by mid-spring for the center to participate this year. The board emphasized that if the COA registers, staff should plan how to deploy ICAA materials to reach as many Natick seniors as possible.
The decision follows discussion from the Health Workgroup, which reviewed local exercise and chronic disease programs and recommended pursuing Active Aging Week as an outreach opportunity. The motion directs staff to return with findings on registration steps, timing, and a plan for distributing campaign materials to center participants.
The board set no formal budget for the registration at this meeting and did not take further action beyond authorizing staff inquiry. The board adjourned at 3:15 p.m.; the next meeting is scheduled for March 9, 2026, at 2 p.m.
