Saugatuck schedules Maple Street open house; city to verify water service materials for lead

City Manager Cummins told the Saugatuck City Council Sept. 9 that a Maple Street open house is planned for Sept. 17 with two sessions (3:00–5:30 p.m. and 7:00–8:30 p.m.) to engage residents on the project. Cummins also said the city will begin a grant‑funded verification of water service materials to determine whether service lines contain lead.
Cummins said the verification work will require field inspection and that contractors may need to perform small test excavations in streets, in the city right‑of‑way or on sidewalks; homeowners who require interior service work will receive door hangers explaining the process. The city is carrying out the verification to satisfy grant requirements and to identify any lines that may need later replacement or remediation.
Cummins also praised Oval Beach Manager Noah Aramendi and his staff for a busy summer season.
