Sterling Board of Education Policy Subcommittee reviews discipline, special-education and military-student policies

The Sterling Board of Education Policy Subcommittee convened at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 8, 2025, in the Superintendent’s Office and reviewed a set of district policies it will forward to the full board for a first reading on Sept. 17, 2025. Committee members present were Dorothy Capobianco, Jennifer Mossner, Theodore Friend and Christine Chandler.
The subcommittee examined Policy 5114 (Students—Suspension and Expulsion/Due Process); Policy 6159 and Regulation 6159 (Instruction—Individualized Education Program); and Policy 5118.2 (Students—Educational Opportunities for Military Children). The group agreed these items will be placed on the full board agenda for first reading rather than taking final action at the subcommittee meeting.
The items reviewed affect student discipline procedures, how the district documents and implements Individualized Education Programs for students with disabilities, and provisions ensuring continuity of educational services for military-connected students. No formal motions or votes are recorded in the transcript of this session; the subcommittee’s action was to prepare the policies for the board’s Sept. 17 meeting.
The meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m. and adjourned at 5:00 p.m. The full Board of Education is scheduled to receive these policies for their first reading at the regular board meeting on Sept. 17, 2025.
