At its regular meeting the Pocahontas Area Comm School District board approved a package of routine business items, including a request to the state School Budget Review Committee (SBRC) for modified supplemental spending authority, multiple personnel actions, and several equipment purchases.
Administration presented the SBRC application that requests additional spending authority to cover gaps such as increased open enrollment; one figure presented in the packet tied to new open‑enrollment students was $118,700. A motion by Chris, seconded by Sarah, to approve submission of the SBRC application carried by voice vote.
The board approved three personnel contracts and added a volunteer for high‑school boys basketball (Jason) contingent on completion of coursework, licensure and background check. The board also approved multiple open‑enrollment requests for students moving into and out of the district; transportation assistance procedures for open‑enrolled students were explained.
Two sealed bids for district‑owned propane were opened and the higher bid (from Molen Farms LLC) was accepted. The board also approved purchases of a second brush for snow removal and four additional CleverTouch interactive displays for elementary classrooms, to be funded in part by grants and in part from district Pebble funds.
All listed motions passed by voice vote during the meeting. Administration will follow up with procurement, vendor coordination and verification of volunteer background checks.
