Administration presented a draft of four key drivers for the 2025–26 school year—continuing the district evaluation plan, implementing the Connecticut school climate policy, improving communications, and conducting a needs assessment to support a strategic operating plan—and said the board will consider formal adoption at the Sept. 23 business meeting.
Board members repeatedly urged measurable indicators and SMART timeframes so progress can be tracked. "Now there's other things that you want we would gladly add to it but we did that for each of the goal areas...we would provide that usually a midyear report out and then of course at the end of the year," administration said.
Several members asked to add a fifth key driver to capture finances and facilities. The request followed discussion of architect proposals for a 10‑year capital improvement plan that came in above the budgeted amount; the lowest bid cited was $88,000 against a budgeted $70,000. Board members directed staff to seek lower bids or alternatives and noted the importance of an up‑to‑date facilities evaluation to inform capital requests to the town.
The board agreed to add a fifth driver to the draft goals and to take the revised document up for approval at the Sept. 23 meeting. Administration said it has already met with multiple firms for a strategic audit and will bring proposals to the curriculum, technology and communications committee and other relevant committees.
