Oxford High prepares NEAS self‑study and stakeholder surveys ahead of March collaborative conference

Principal Heather O'Brien presented details of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEAS) accreditation process and the district’s plan for stakeholder surveys. She said staff formed a steering committee last spring and have been collecting evidence across standards to inform a self-study and to identify three to five priority areas for school improvement.
"Our collaborative conference is scheduled for this coming March the 15th and the 16th at the high school," Heather said, describing a visiting team of six who will observe classrooms, interview administrators, staff, students and parents, and then help refine the district’s self‑identified priorities.
Heather explained NEAS provides three surveys—students, staff and families—and described how the surveys will be administered: students will complete the survey in advisory (about 20 minutes), staff will complete it during a dedicated meeting, and parents will receive an electronic version with translation options. She warned that the survey platform does not allow saving partway through: once started, respondents must finish in a single sitting. NEAS recommends a 25% response rate, which Heather called a reasonable target.
Board members raised concerns about parent response rates based on past outreach; Heather said administration will publicize the survey through the Friday newsletter, robocalls, meet‑the‑teacher night kiosks and home‑game outreach to help achieve the response target. She also outlined the timeline: draft report submission in late fall/early winter, collaborative conference in March, and final accreditation visit in March 2028.
Heather and NEAS liaison Carl Johnson said the current NEAS model is more collaborative than in prior years and is intended to help schools set realistic, staff‑driven goals rather than issue large lists of corrective recommendations.
