The Orange Board of Education opened its April 21 meeting by presenting Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendent certificates to several sixth-grade students across Peek Place, Racebrook and Turkey Hill schools.
Superintendent Dr. Scarpetti introduced the awards and called the evening “exciting,” recognizing students for academic performance, leadership and community service. Mrs. Lasser and school representatives read citations for individual recipients, highlighting activities such as student council leadership, Battle of the Books participation, athletics, arts involvement and volunteer work. Dr. Scarpetti said it was “nice to honor your students” and noted the awards consider both service and academic ability.
Recipients named on the record included Jordana Ferris, Philip Ivanov, Christopher Lamb (Peek Place), and students from Racebrook and Turkey Hill whose teachers described exemplary leadership, community service and extracurricular achievements. Presenters emphasized each student’s contributions to school life — from student council roles and music ensembles to volunteering at local community programs.
The board paused briefly for photos and a small reception before resuming regular business.
The recognition does not carry a board action; it was ceremonial and intended to publicly acknowledge student accomplishments.
