The Orange Board of Education unanimously approved second‑read motions on Nov. 18 to adopt several policies and heard finance and audit updates.
The board voted to approve policy 4134 (certified tutoring), policy 61623 (instruction testing program) and policy 6180 (evaluation of district programs and strategic plan). Each motion passed on a voice vote, recorded as unanimous.
In the finance report, Mr. Gray said the district currently manages four active grants, including a multi‑year summer mental health supports grant and a K–3 primary mental health grant, and that reimbursement requests are underway for a school security camera replacement project. He also said an ARPA online abuse prevention grant (noted as a $30,000 award) is effectively on hold pending state funding availability; the district will continue follow‑up because some grant funds already have been spent. Mr. Gray warned that if anticipated ARPA/ESSER funds do not materialize the district may need to cover roughly $155,000 in the upcoming budget.
Food services staff notified families in September about free and reduced lunch certification status and a 30‑day eligibility window; Mr. Gray said families who have not become certified will lose benefits and were advised to apply via the district website.
Auditors are conducting the 2023–24 review using agreed‑upon procedures and the district is working toward the statutory audit timeline. Board members asked follow‑up questions about potential budget impacts if grant reimbursements are not received.
