Sterling Board of Finance approves DPW camera upgrade and $7,500 Story Hour Room repairs

The Sterling Board of Finance approved two expenditures during its Feb. 11 meeting: $1,579.20 to update the Department of Public Works garage camera system and $7,500 to repair interior water damage in the old Story Hour Room.
Chairman Robert Salisbury opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. and the board moved quickly into new business. David Malo moved to approve the CDW-G quote of $1,579.20 for the DPW camera-system update; Vice Chair Neil Delmonico seconded the motion, and the board approved it by voice vote 5-0.
The board also reviewed a contractor quote from Mark Finley Jr. for $7,500 to address interior damage attributed to an ice dam. The $7,500 total was presented with a breakdown of $1,700 for sheetrock repair and $5,800 for additional modifications including dimmer switches and mini-split vents for five rooms. David Malo moved to approve the $7,500 expenditure; James Molodich seconded the motion, and it passed 5-0.
First Selectman Jack Joslyn said crews had chipped ice off the roof and that electric heating tape will be installed to prevent further damage. The board directed that the town contact its insurance company to determine whether a claim should be filed.
Board members asked for additional documentation on the DPW camera project and requested more information about equipment and specifications at the next meeting. The Treasurer reported the town audit is under way and will be presented next month; the board also requested a Treasurer presentation explaining how to read budget reports.
The meeting adjourned at 7:49 p.m.
