Shelby planning commission signs off on edits to Master Plan 2025, highlights park upgrades

What the commission changed: Members identified minor wording revisions and agreed to enhance the Master Plan subsection on Parks to note key Getty Park improvements completed in 2024, including restroom facilities, picnic pavilions, pickleball, tennis and basketball courts, an outdoor gas fireplace, garbage receptacles and additional seating and accessibility improvements. Commissioners also agreed the plan should reference the community’s interest in similar upgrades to the Rail Trail Pavilion and the introduction of youth and senior recreation programs, dedicated trails and walking paths to encourage outdoor activity and engagement.
Record of action: Earlier in the meeting, Commissioner Paul Inglis moved to open the public hearing on the Master Plan at 6:07 P.M.; John Sutton seconded and the motion carried by voice vote. After discussion of written correspondence from Sharon Hallack, Inglis moved to close the hearing at 6:35 P.M.; Tim Horton seconded and the motion carried by voice vote. The commission had previously approved the minutes of its Nov. 18, 2025 meeting by motion (Paul Inglis moved; Samantha Gottschalk seconded; voice vote all in favor).
What’s next: The minutes note that Planning Commission meeting minutes are not official until approved at the next regularly scheduled meeting on March 17, 2026. The Master Plan language revisions agreed at this meeting will be incorporated into the record and available for review as part of the ordinance-update process and any subsequent funding or project planning discussions.
