Sterling selectmen send three drafted ordinances to Town Meeting for approval

STERLING — The Sterling Board of Selectmen voted 3-0 March 4 to move three drafted ordinances to a Town Meeting for final consideration. The board accepted a drafted Street Takeover Ordinance and, separately, drafted Sewer and Building Permits ordinances and authorized placement on a future Town Meeting agenda, with the date to be determined once other proposed ordinances are completed.
The actions were taken during the board’s regular meeting at Town Hall. Selectman Ronald Whitcomb moved to accept the Street Takeover Ordinance and send it to a Town Meeting; Selectman Patricia Massey seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. Later, after Massey asked for clarification and Selectmen Jack Joslyn and Whitcomb provided additional detail, Massey moved and Whitcomb seconded to accept the Sewer and Building Permits ordinances and send them to a Town Meeting; that motion also passed 3-0.
Why it matters: Sending draft ordinances to a Town Meeting begins the public vote process; if approved by town voters, the ordinances would become local law and change how the town regulates street takeovers, sewer operations, and building permits. The board did not set a Town Meeting date at the March 4 session.
Board members noted that additional ordinances are being drafted and that the Town Meeting date will be scheduled once the full set of proposed ordinances is assembled. No formal public hearing date or final text was announced at the meeting.
