Denise, speaking for the project team, said the survey has received 277 responses so far, about 22% of the city's adult population, and that interviews with residents and business owners are continuing. "We have about 277 responses to our survey. That number keeps going up," Denise said, adding the team expects to continue collecting responses through the end of April and to conduct 35 to 40 interviews overall.
The team described recurring themes from the responses — a small-town feel, schools, safety and green spaces — and said staff will draft Heart & Soul statements from those themes and then ask the public to weigh in on whether the statements represent community priorities.
An outreach event is scheduled for May 21 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Peosta Community Center, where draft statements will be shared for public feedback. The team requested volunteers to help with interviews, and council members offered to refer apartment residents and young families for inclusion.
Why it matters: The Heart & Soul process is intended to collect resident priorities and translate them into local planning and priority-setting. The response rate reported suggests relatively broad initial participation, but staff said additional interviews and outreach will continue.
