Carlisle council authorizes natural gas supplier agreement, discusses possible solar on city-owned site

Carlisle City Council on April 8 adopted Resolution 9-25 authorizing the city manager to enter into an agreement with a natural gas supplier to provide natural gas to city-owned buildings.
City Manager Chris Lohr said the resolution lets staff solicit supplier quotes and sign contracts that could lower gas rates for municipal facilities. The resolution passed on a roll-call vote after a motion by Michael Kilpatrick and a second from Debbie Kemper.
During discussion council members raised the prospect of solar power for municipal use. Lohr said staff had discussed a solar concept with an advisor and would provide utility bills to pursue evaluations. Council member Michael Kilpatrick noted the two acres behind the police department are an old landfill and suggested that site could be suitable for a solar installation.
Resolution 9-25 passed; council did not adopt any binding solar plan during the meeting and directed staff to pursue supplier quotes and information.
