Sherwood trustees accept 2023 audit, hear treasurer balance and set Nov. meeting date

Sherwood Township trustees on Oct. 1 received routine administrative reports including acceptance of a completed 2023 audit, a treasurer’s fund-balance report, and several operational updates.

Treasurer Dale Marie Brubaker reported a general fund balance of $175,566.60 and said she attended a Michigan Townships Association workshop she found informative. Brubaker also reported that letters would be mailed in October to homeowners affected by the May 7, 2024 tornado about reassessments.

Marjorie Whitcomb, township clerk, reported that repairs have been completed on the fuel-tank enclosure, the township building and the cemetery, and she thanked EMC Insurance and contractor teams (Baker Construction; Matt Dennis/Motor Shop; Warner Oil; D&K Fence; Sealey & Sons Tree Service; Diamond Lawn Service) for their assistance. Whitcomb said Safebuilt is preparing totals for building permits deferred because of tornado damage and that 25 absentee ballots had been returned so far.

Old-business logistics included a driveway resurfacing delayed by equipment breakdowns and rescheduled for Oct. 4–5; Supervisor Robbins will confirm with Upston Asphalt. Because the Nov. 5 election conflicts with the regular meeting date, Robbins moved to hold the November meeting Monday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m.; Brubaker seconded and the motion passed.

Robbins moved to approve the Sept. 3 minutes at the start of the meeting and moved to approve bills later in the agenda; both motions were seconded and passed. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.

No additional budget votes or formal ordinances were adopted at the meeting.
