Sherwood fire tanker repaired; chief reports two calls in September

Sherwood Township’s fire chief reported that the department’s tanker received a repair to the transfer case rather than a full replacement, lowering the expected cost.
Chief Jeff Smurr said Dependable Fire Apparatus repaired the transfer case at a cost of $13,782.81 and that the "job was done very well." Smurr said the department responded to two calls in September: an auto rollover on Babcock Road and a mutual-aid response to a structure fire in Athens village on Veterans Drive. He also reported three department trainings during the month and that work continues on the brush fire truck.
Smurr said the department plans to attend Union City's Fire Appreciation Day on Saturday, Oct. 5; firefighters volunteer their time for that event. Supervisor Aaron Robbins thanked Smurr during the meeting for his work improving the department and finding "good deals" on equipment and repairs.
No votes or formal actions on department spending were recorded at the Oct. 1 meeting.
