Committee approves homeschool request, appoints representative to regional collaboratives and sets evaluation timeline
Summary

The West Bridgewater School Committee completed several routine but consequential actions during its April 7 meeting, including approvals of a homeschool request, appointments to regional collaboratives, policy adoptions and scheduling the superintendent evaluation timeline.
Homeschool request: The administration recommended approval of a home-schooling application that complied with committee policy; a motion to accept the request was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Appointments: Pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws chapter 40, section 4E (as amended), the committee moved and approved appointing Mark Bodwell to serve as the West Bridgewater Public Schools representative on the boards of Reeds Collaborative and North River Collaborative for the 2025–2026 school year. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Evaluation timeline and budget: The committee approved dates for the superintendent-evaluation process: evidence due May 5; individual evaluations to the chair by May 19; summary to the superintendent by May 26; and an open meeting to review evaluations on June 2. The committee also noted that the FY26 school budget (a 5.83% increase over FY25) has been moved to town meeting on May 12 following presentations to the board of selectmen and the finance committee.
Policies and personnel: The committee adopted policies including JL (student welfare) and IMGA (service animals) and rescinded policies IGC and IGC-R because their content is now covered by IGA/IGD. Several policies (including bullying prevention, student discipline and the physical-restraint policy) were held for further revision in response to the Tiered Focus Monitoring corrective action. The committee appointed Carol Lazardi as alternate to the personnel and negotiations subcommittee to ensure continuity during current negotiations.
Executive session: The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn the open meeting and enter executive session to discuss collective bargaining with the West Bridgewater Education Association under M.G.L. c.30A, §21(a)(2), with a roll-call vote recorded (Lazardi: yes; Shmeir: yes; Milton: yes; Dragonetti: yes). The committee stated it would not reconvene in open session.
The committee scheduled its next regular meeting for May 5, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the Middle Senior High School learning commons.
