Committee opens new-courses and student-welfare policies; flags need to upgrade town payroll software

At the March 10 meeting the West Bridgewater School Committee voted to open two policies for revision and discussed administrative systems upgrades for the town.
Chair Robin Dragonetti moved to open Policy IGC, "Establishing new courses and programs of study," and the implementing procedure IGC-R, and to add Policy JL, "Student Welfare," for revision following recommendations from an insurance audit. The committee seconded and approved the motion; the district's attorney will draft recommended language for the committee to consider at its April meeting.
Separately, a committee member reported meeting with town staff and urged that the town upgrade payroll and HR systems. The member said the district is the town's largest employer, current systems require extensive manual data entry, and the lack of modern HR modules slows reporting and increases the risk of data-entry errors. Members suggested the upgrade could be a capital expense and recommended that the budget subcommittee coordinate with the town to explore vendor options and timing.
The committee set its next regular meeting for April 7, 2025. Attorney-prepared policy revisions are expected to return to the committee at that meeting.
