Springport — Village Manager Saylors told the council at its Sept. 10 workshop that she has been in contact with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) about a residential discharge issue and that the council recommended involving the Village Attorney to review legal options.
Saylors also reported that the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) met at the Village Office with utility companies, County and Township representatives to discuss the M-99 Project, and that the Village's Wastewater Project is moving along. She said the Village submitted its audit to the State of Michigan and submitted an invoice to recoup costs for repairs on Oyer Street. She additionally noted that the well houses have new lighting and reminded the council that the next meeting is Sept. 25 at 12:30 p.m.
On unfinished business, the Administration Committee reviewed the Rental Inspection Ordinance and voted to refer it to the Village Attorney for legal review before the council takes further action. The committee also reviewed residential and commercial blight ordinances and provided recommendations to council; the transcript records the review but does not include the ordinance text or the specific proposed changes.
Under new business, council members discussed moving Manager Saylors and Clerk/Deputy Treasurer Theresa Woolworth from interim to appointed status and reviewed Manager Saylors' compensation. Council also discussed moving forward with fire insurance; the transcript records recommendation to proceed but no formal roll-call vote in this workshop excerpt.
The workshop closed with President Webb adjourning the meeting at 8:45 p.m. Minutes are noted as subject to approval at the next council meeting.
