Sparta council rezones properties to allow Habitat for Humanity build and to correct split zoning

SPARTA, Mich. — The Village of Sparta voted Oct. 14 to adopt Ordinance 24-07, amending the zoning map to permit a Habitat for Humanity home at 92 S. State St. and to correct split zoning on 15 E. Averill St.
The first change rezones 92 S. State St. from B (Business) to RH (Residential High Density) to allow the parcel to be sold to Habitat for Humanity for construction of a house. The second change consolidates split zoning on 15 E. Averill St., which had apparently been combined from multiple parcels without a corresponding rezoning, so the parcel can be developed to its highest and best use. The Planning Commission had unanimously recommended adoption of the ordinance to the council.
Council Member Courtney Mais moved to adopt the ordinance; Bill Taylor seconded the motion and the measure passed unanimously. No public comment was recorded on the item during the meeting.
