West Bridgewater students advance to regional National History Day; Patriot's Pen winners receive scholarships

The West Bridgewater School Committee on Feb. 3 recognized Middle/Senior High students who won local National History Day competitions and Patriot's Pen essay awards. The committee asked winners to come forward and posed for photographs after the meeting.
Several student exhibits and essays were singled out: winners advancing to the regional National History Day competition at Foxboro High School on March 16 included individual and group exhibits on topics ranging from the John F. Kennedy exhibit to a Salem Witch Trials group project. Patriot's Pen first-place winners James Brown and Olivia Ruth each earned $300 scholarships; a Howard School student placed second and a third-place winner received $100.
Committee members and staff praised students for their research and presentation work, noting the district will host the scholarship presentation at school and that students representing West Bridgewater will compete regionally in mid-March. The recognitions paused the meeting briefly so families and committee members could take photographs.
The recognitions were part of the meeting's opening agenda items; there was no formal vote associated with the awards. For more information about contest dates and scholarship distribution, the committee said the Bridgewater VFW would present scholarships at the students' schools the following day.
