Standish council swears in two new members, appoints Link as acting mayor pro tem and approves holiday street closures

Standish — The Standish City Council’s Nov. 11 regular meeting included several routine but consequential administrative actions: the swearing in of new council members, an internal appointment, calendar decisions and approvals for seasonal public events.
City Clerk Champagne Southworth administered the oath to new councilmembers Lincoln and Myers. Mayor Kevin King thanked outgoing members Winslow, Rang and Prout for their service.
Councilmember Myers moved and Councilmember Fleszar supported a motion appointing Councilmember Link as acting mayor pro tem; the motion passed with all present voting in favor. Council also voted (Link motion, supported by Fleszar) to continue holding regular council meetings on the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
Routine governance items included approval of the Oct. 14 meeting minutes (motion by Fleszar, support by Spencer) and payment of October invoices (motion by Fleszar, supported by Myers). The roll-call vote to pay invoices was recorded as YEAS: Lincoln, Myers, Fleszar, Spencer, Link, King; NAYS: none; one seat was unfilled and absent.
The council approved street closures for two holiday events: a Santa Parade on Nov. 29 (closing W Cedar St from Lovett Ln to N Forest St and N Forest St to E Beaver St from 6–7 p.m.) following a motion by Spencer supported by Fleszar, and a Santa Train visit to the Standish Depot on Dec. 7, approving closure of W Beaver St from N Front St to M-13 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (motion by Fleszar, supported by Myers). Both motions carried unanimously among present members.
Mayor King adjourned the meeting at 7:05 p.m.
