At its April 15 meeting the Wales Planning Board discussed whether the special permit for the Wales Irish Pub on Holland Road has lapsed after the business stopped operating.
Board members said the town has received multiple inquiries about the pub’s sale and ownership status and reviewed the permitting rule that a permitted use that is abandoned or stops for a period (maximum of three years) would lapse. The board said it wants to determine when the current owners stopped operating the business to establish whether the permit remains in effect.
Jason Oney, Planning Board chair, opened the discussion and recorded the board’s desire to gather information; no formal action or vote was taken on the permit at the meeting. The board did not record a determination of the date the pub ceased operations and gave no timetable for when staff or members would report back.
The discussion was listed under old business and no public speakers were present. The board adjourned at 6:39 p.m.; the next meeting is scheduled for May 13, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at the Wales Senior Center.
