South Range fire chief: 14 radios via DNR grant; uniform replacement deferred

Fire Chief Balma reported to the Village of South Range Council on March 5 that the department will obtain 14 upgraded radios by using a DNR grant and that the department assisted Chassell on a call in February.
The chief also requested authority to add two new positions and asked for new uniforms, noting current uniforms date from the 1990s. Trustee Korby said purchasing new uniforms is not in this year’s budget and recommended the chief obtain quotes in October and review the budget in November to determine if funds can be allocated.
No formal staffing action was taken at the meeting; the radio acquisition via the DNR grant was presented as an awarded or available funding source for upgraded equipment. The council approved other operational and financial items later in the meeting.
