Village insurance representatives told the South Range Council on May 7 that the village’s current policy did not include local firefighters for workers’ compensation, and the council moved immediately to fix the gap.
M. Hannala of Hannala Insurance informed the council that "the Village of South Range does not have the South Range firefighters covered for worker’s compensation in the current policy. This needs to be added immediately." She also said the village’s Fourth of July committee must insure future festivities.
Trustee Marier moved, with support from Trustee Balma, to include all South Range firefighters in the village workers’-compensation policy. The transcript records the roll-call Ayes as President Eakin, Trustee Korby, Trustee Marier and Trustee Balma; Nays and abstentions were recorded as none. The motion carried.
The council did not specify an implementation date or the additional premium cost at the meeting; the clerk or treasurer is expected to work with the insurance agent to update the policy and report back to the council.
