Clarks trustees approve pool repairs quote, will apply for Merrick Foundation grant

The Clarks Village Board on May 13 approved a contractor quote and authorized staff to apply for a Merrick Foundation grant to cover repairs and related items at the village swimming pool.
On a motion by Trustee Chris Langley, seconded by Trustee Dyrek Zoucha, the board voted to approve using the Carlson Construction quote as the basis for a Merrick Foundation grant application with a July 1 deadline. The roll-call vote showed Ayes from Zoucha, Langley, Parker and Glynn; Trustee James Parsons recorded an abstention, and the motion carried 4-1.
Village pool supervisor Tabitha Rieken reported that new lifeguards are completing certification courses, staff scheduling is in progress and several guards need CPR renewal with Shelly Urkoski. Rieken said the goal is to open the pool by June 1. Clerk Kari Podliska told the board of statewide changes by DWEE that will shift pool inspection responsibilities to local health departments; Central District Health will conduct inspections for Clarks after July 18 and an online training change for operators will not affect the village until next year.
The board did not commit village funds at the meeting beyond approving use of the quote to seek grant funding. If the Merrick Foundation application is successful, the grant would be used for the quoted doors, shades and poles; the clerk was directed to proceed with the application.
