Superintendent outlines homecoming events and warns of state School Aid uncertainty

Superintendent Jennifer McKittrick used the board meeting on Sept. 15 to review homecoming-week plans and highlight a potential funding risk from the state legislature.
McKittrick outlined activities including a 5:30 p.m. homecoming parade, a veteran speaker and moment of silence coordinated with the VFW, the National Anthem and a 7:00 p.m. football game against Farwell, as well as student activities through the week.
On state funding, she said, "We are closely monitoring the Michigan Legislature's progress on finalizing the School Aid Budget. The absence of an adopted budget creates uncertainty about receiving our October 20th State Aid payment." She noted the Senate's approach keeps most categorical spending and requirements while the House would roll many items into a single funding bucket, and said the removal of categorical funding is concerning because it would not account for diverse district needs.
McKittrick also noted she will attend the MASA Superintendent's Conference and reminded the community of an early release and upcoming student leadership meetings through GIRESD.
The board did not take any formal action on state funding at the meeting; McKittrick reported the matter for situational awareness and staff follow-up.
