Coach Alex Goslin and the South Windsor girls varsity basketball team were featured at the April 28 board meeting, where Goslin reviewed the season and the program's community engagement.
Goslin, who taught in district and served her first year as varsity coach, said the team adopted the slogan "leadership is working hard to compete as a team" and listed five pillars: leadership, teamwork, effort, competition and connection. She reported a 16–4 regular-season record and described a stretch of postseason play that included the program's first playoff win in 10 years and a comeback victory after trailing by 16 points going into the fourth quarter.
Goslin emphasized off-court work: the team volunteered at the Midwest Food Bank, held an equity basketball game that showcased 15 student clubs and causes, and organized a breast cancer awareness night that raised $418 in one evening. "It's not just about basketball," she said, describing student athletes' engagement in community service.
Board members praised the team's culture and discussed the feeder system that supports long-term success. Mr. Armstrong asked about youth travel programs and summer camps; Goslin said the district works with local travel basketball and runs clinics to build skills. Mr. Mackey and Mr. Marks commended Goslin's energy and the role coaches play in developing future leaders.
The board encouraged continued community promotion of girls basketball to keep attendance strong and support student athletes going forward.
Next steps: board members said they will continue to promote attendance at games and explore ways to support coaching stability and youth feeder programs.
