Rockville High AST representative says program offers vocational options to South Windsor students

Carl Reichley, South Windsor's representative to the Rockville High Agriculture, Science & Technology program, briefed the board March 24 on the regional vocational program and the number of South Windsor students participating.
Reichley said six students from South Windsor currently attend the AST program and that for the 2026–27 year there were 65 total applicants and 45 acceptances across participating towns. He described program offerings that include agromechanics, animal science, aquaculture, floral design and a new lab facility with tanks for aquaculture work. "You're getting a great bang for your buck," Reichley told the board, and he invited board members to sit in on regional meetings.
Board members asked about marketing and selection. Reichley said recruitment occurs in eighth grade through visits and flyers, applicants complete an essay and interviews, and seats are limited by program capacity and graduating seniors vacating openings.
The board thanked Reichley for his volunteer service and presentation; no vote or formal action was required.
