The South Windsor Board of Education voted March 24 to set the last day of school for students and staff as Friday, June 19, 2026, approved the FY26 third budget status report and accepted several PTO donations to Orchard Hill Elementary.
Board member Mr. Armstrong moved to set the last day as June 19; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Board members discussed communications and instruction for Juneteenth, with Dr. Carter saying the district will send family communications and ensure Juneteenth is taught regardless of whether the federal holiday falls on a school day.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved the FY26 third budget status report as presented. Mr. Murka reported an unallocated positive balance of $184,668 composed of $133,232 in benefit funds, $4,286 in supply funds and $47,168 in program balances; personnel accounts showed a current deficit of $264,423 and special education was projected to exceed budget by about $100,000. Board members moved to approve the report by voice vote.
The board also approved donations to Orchard Hill Elementary School from its PTO (amounts read into the record) following a motion to accept those donations; the motion carried.
The board approved minutes of its Feb. 25, 2026 special meeting earlier in the session. Votes were recorded by voice; an individual roll-call tally was not read into the record.
