Staff said nominations for the Annual Awards will roll out around Jan. 15 with a two-week window; a review committee is scheduled to meet around Feb. 3 to evaluate nominations and select awardees. Plaques are planned to be ordered around Feb. 10–13 from vendor BKG Media, with blanks to be pre-ordered and lettering added later. Schools will receive communications for the youth award with a requested return date of Feb. 5. The commission reported ongoing efforts to reach potential keynote Olivia White.
Commissioners also noted Human Rights Day plans: State’s Attorney Joyce King presented on 'invasion of privacy' and the commission proposed a forum on that topic targeted for spring 2026. The commission confirmed participation in FCPS's Martin Luther King event on Jan. 15 (members register individually) and a Day of Service on Jan. 19, 9:30–11:30 AM, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; the commission sponsored a sign-language interpreter for the service.
