Subdivision regulations discussion tabled until final language and attorney review

St. Clair County commissioners on Feb. 10 debated proposed revisions to the county's subdivision regulations and agreed to table action until a finalized draft is completed and reviewed by the county attorney.

The introduction and staff summary urged approval pending attorney review, and the mayor's association requested notice provisions for municipalities adjacent to new subdivisions. One commissioner recommended not voting until revised language discussed at a prior work session was added, arguing the commission should protect subdivisions that would be grandfathered in and avoid approving an incomplete document. "I think it would be wise and advisable... to do the motion and second and maybe table the vote pending getting to a final draft," the commissioner said.

After discussion, a motion and second were made to table the regulations to the next work session so staff can incorporate the additional language and complete attorney review. The motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.

The commission’s action was procedural: no substantive regulatory language was adopted at the meeting. The commissioners said they preferred another two weeks to finalize the language rather than risk adopting provisions that had not been fully reconciled with referenced external documents. The item will return to a future work session with a revised draft and any attorney comments.
