Hertford council approves retreat notes, tasks Mayor Pro Tem to finalise strategic plan draft

At its April 25, 2022 work session, the Council of the Town of Hertford unanimously approved the Strategic Planning Retreat notes and voted to have Mayor Pro Tem Ashley Hodges prepare a cleaned-up version of the draft strategic plan for consideration on the May 9 regular meeting consent agenda.

Mayor Earnell Brown invited comments on the Strategic Plan draft. Mayor Pro Tem Ashley Hodges said the plan had been facilitated for the town and included scheduled milestones; Hodges said he supported separating certain elements and would edit formatting, correct misspellings, insert necessary definitions and add introductory paragraphs where needed. Hodges moved that he would clean up the draft; the motion was seconded by Councilman Jerry Mimlitsch and passed 5-0.

Council members discussed keeping milestones and operational items distinct in the document so the plan could be placed on the consent agenda at the May 9 meeting after Hodges’ edits. The motion imposed no formal changes to policy or budgets; it directed Hodges (and staff as needed) to prepare an updated draft for the next regular meeting’s consent agenda.

The council also unanimously approved the retreat notes as presented earlier in the meeting; no amendments were requested. The actions recorded were procedural and intended to advance the plan toward formal adoption at a later meeting after review and formatting changes.
