Commission approves hires, routine contracts and sheriff requests; board makes two appointments

At its March 10 meeting the St. Clair County Commission approved a set of routine personnel, equipment and contract items and made two appointments to county authorities.
County Administrator Tina Morgan recommended hiring Kelli Arrington to the vacant AP/AR (Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable) receptionist-clerk position; the commission approved the hire by unanimous vote. The board also ratified Chairman Stanley D. Batemon’s signature on a letter of support for federal funding requested by the Coosa Valley Water Supply District for Phase III of its countywide water expansion.
IT Manager Glenn Morgan recommended adoption of County Policy #78 to manage Apple IDs for county employees (pending County Attorney review); the commission approved implementation. The commission approved transferring generator Inventory #6664 from the Emergency Management Agency to the City of Argo, and authorized a perc test at the Sheriff’s Training Center for $800 ($600 for the perc test, $200 for the health department permit).
The commission approved a $499.96 reimbursement to the Sheriff’s inmate welfare fund for storage cabinets, and approved adding a Verizon GPS subscription for new sheriff’s vehicles at $2,876.40 annually (the minutes state the department recently added 15 new vehicles). The board also approved renewing the Combined Public Communications, LLC (CPC) inmate phone contracts for three years, pending County Attorney review.
Travel requests were approved. Commissioner Bob Mize moved to appoint Commissioner Joey Stevens to the St. Clair County Health Care Authority to fill a vacancy; Commissioner Stevens abstained from the vote and the motion passed (recorded as an abstention). The commission also appointed Dean Goforth to the St. Clair County Airport Authority. The commission approved monthly bills (except items questioned before close of business) and adjourned at approximately 10:05 a.m.
What’s next: Several items (the CPC contract renewal and the County Policy #78 implementation) were recorded as pending County Attorney review; the minutes list attachments for contracts and letters as they are finalized.
