Waterford board approves $25,000 for police HVAC study after questions about roof scope

An $85,000 amount was described in the meeting as earmarked separately for a portion of the police station roof repair and will be pursued in spring when weather allows.
Board members emphasized the importance of engaging the police chief and building occupants in the engineering scoping. The director said the first step is to convene the engineer and the chief to identify what works and what needs change, including locker-room ventilation and possible space conversions. Members noted that HVAC projects often take longer than expected; staff estimated the design/study turnaround in roughly six months but cautioned the full project could extend into a two-year schedule.
One member recorded an opposed vote; otherwise the motion carried. The board will forward the appropriation to the Representative Town Meeting for final authorization. The study is intended to produce a high-level cost estimate and inform future funding requests.
Next steps: staff will contract an engineer once the appropriation is authorized and report back with scope and cost estimates for construction funding consideration.
