Aurelia council approves street bid, sets FY27 budget hearing and OKs lifeguard hires

The Aurelia City Council approved three procedural actions in a special session March 30 at Aurelia City Hall, voting unanimously to accept a street project bid, to set a public hearing on the FY27 budget, and to approve lifeguard applicants and a new pay schedule for the 2026 season. Mayor Roman Redig opened the meeting at 5:45 p.m.; the minutes do not specify a timezone.

Council Member Fassler moved to approve Smith Concrete Services' bid for the city street project in the amount of $18,850.00; Council Member Bleil seconded and all members present — Council Members Nelson, Bleil, Bruce, Fassler and Johnson — voted aye to carry the motion. The minutes record the contractor and the bid amount as approved without amendment.

Council Member Nelson moved to approve the proposed FY27 budget for the purpose of setting a public hearing on the full budget; Council Member Fassler seconded. The council set the public hearing for April 20, 2026, and the motion carried with all members voting aye. The scheduled hearing is the next procedural step before final budget adoption.

Council Member Bruce moved to approve lifeguard applicants for the 2026 season, to set starting pay for new hires at $10 per hour, to authorize pay increases as listed in the minutes, and to provide a $200 end-of-season bonus for lifeguards who obtain their Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification; Council Member Bleil seconded. The motion carried unanimously.

The minutes further state new hires start at $10 per hour and that lifeguards receiving their WSI certification will receive a $200.00 bonus at the end of the season.
