St. Louis Board of Education approves $1.46M in bills, awards $12,600 softball field renovation bid

The St. Louis Board of Education voted Monday night to approve payment of $1,458,798.36 in board bills and accepted a $12,600 bid to renovate the high school softball field, the board said at a regular meeting held in the High School Media Center.
Board Treasurer John Pavlik and three fellow board members present — Chad Clark, Steve Brimmer and Carla Trevino — voted to approve the bills; three members were absent. The motion to pay the bills passed on a roll call vote after the board approved a consent agenda of routine items.
Superintendent Jennifer McKittrick recommended accepting the low bid from John Arens for $12,600 to renovate the softball field; Member Chad Clark moved to accept the recommendation and Member Carla Trevino seconded. The motion passed on the roll call of members present.
The board also approved several personnel hires. By motion of Member Steve Brimmer, supported by Member Chad Clark, the board hired Cammy Davidson as a special education paraprofessional, Paige Mepham as an at-risk paraprofessional, Lillian Knickerbocker as a special education paraprofessional, Jeffrey Lombard as an at-risk paraprofessional and Paul Barnaby as the 8th-grade boys basketball coach. All hiring motions carried with unanimous votes among members present.
The board received the findings of the 2024–2025 General Fund Audit from Trevor Kapp of Roslund Restage and Company; the presentation was entered into the record. The board also reviewed financial reports and directed Administrative Assistant Diann Woodcock to place monthly receipts on file.
Student representatives provided brief reports on upcoming activities. "We are thrilled to announce that these events will be taking place next week," Olivia Lane and Keila Alvarado-Hernandez said, referring to a Halloween Spirit Week and an approved movie night at the high school. TSN and Nikkari student councils reported fundraising and community engagement plans, including Boo Gram sales and a Small-Town Family Christmas cookie distribution.
In other business, the superintendent noted the varsity girls' volleyball team won the Spirit of St. Louis Volleyball Tournament, high school agriculture students will host Harvest Fest stations on Oct. 24, the district continues implementing a new K–12 math curriculum, and the St. Louis Fire Department visited several schools for fire prevention presentations. The board adjourned at 7:27 p.m.; minutes were submitted by Secretary William Bosquez.
Next steps: the board will carry forward routine oversight of district finances and facilities work, including scheduling or executing the approved softball renovation work and onboarding newly hired paraprofessionals and the coach.
