Standish‑Sterling board approves $1.03 million in payments, renews security contract and confirms multiple hires

The Standish‑Sterling Community Schools Board of Education on Aug. 11 unanimously approved a set of routine financial and personnel actions, including payment of $1,028,017.27 from the General Fund and renewal of the district’s security services contract.
Annette Ratajczak, board member, moved to pay bills numbered 55618–55744 and the payroll wire transfers totaling $1,028,017.27; Angie Baker, board secretary, seconded the motion and it passed 6–0 with one member absent. The payment covered general fund obligations presented to the board.
The board also adopted recommended board policy changes from Thrun Law Firm on a motion by Annette Ratajczak, seconded by Angie Baker; the motion carried unanimously (Jeffrey Ryan absent). Kevin Noffsinger, board member, moved to renew the CIM School Security contract and Annette Ratajczak seconded; that motion also passed 6–0 (Ryan absent).
On personnel matters, the board approved continuing the Board & Superintendent Memorial Scholarship for the 2025–26 school year, with each board member and the superintendent contributing $75 toward two $300 scholarships. Angie Baker moved the scholarship authorization and Curt Ratajczak seconded; the vote was unanimous with one absence.
The board accepted resignations from Jessica Shook, Katrina Kandal, Tara Martus, Jennifer Wiedyk and Stacy Kolka and thanked them for their service. Angie Baker moved to accept the resignations; Kevin Noffsinger seconded and the board approved the motion 6–0 (Ryan absent).
Hiring actions approved included the recommended spring sports coaching slate for 2025–26, and the hire of Jim Deckert as the junior varsity baseball coach (motion by Angie Baker, seconded by Kevin Noffsinger). The board also approved hiring Joe Gardyszewski and Paula Potvin as bus drivers and Meadow Leonard, Melissa Dubey, Amanda Bialobrzeski and Jaylin Skinner as paraprofessionals (motion by Curt Ratajczak, seconded by Angie Baker). All personnel motions passed unanimously with one absence recorded.
The meeting concluded after brief board comments; Kevin Noffsinger moved to adjourn, Angie Baker seconded, and the board adjourned at 5:21 p.m.
