Standish-Sterling board approves $835,171.74 in payments, names BAISD representative and approves several hires

The Standish-Sterling Community Schools Board of Education met May 12, 2025, at Central Jr/Sr High School and approved routine business including payments totaling $835,171.74, appointments to the Bay-Arenac Intermediate School District (BAISD) board, a cooperative technology agreement, multiple hires and accepted three resignations.
Board President Dennis Kolevar called the meeting to order and the board recorded six members present and one absent. Board Secretary Angie Baker moved to approve the minutes of the April 14 regular meeting; the board adopted the minutes unanimously among those present.
The board approved paying bills numbered 55007–55250 and payroll wire transfers from the General Fund in the amount of $835,171.74. "I move to pay bills 55007 - 55250 and the payroll wire transfers in the amount of $835,171.74 from the General Fund as presented," moved Annette Ratajczak and seconded by Kevin Noffsinger. The motion passed 5–1 with Curt Ratajczak recorded as the lone Nay and Kimberly Belchak absent.
The board adopted a resolution designating Angie Baker as the district's BAISD representative and Dennis (Denny) Kolevar as the alternate; the motion also expressed support for Gary Yaros and Allen Schmidt for BAISD positions. "I move to approve the official resolution designating Angie Baker as our representative and Denny Kolevar as the alternate representative and to support Gary Yaros, and Allen Schmidt for positions on the BAISD Board of Education," said Annette Ratajczak; the motion passed with all present voting yea.
Trustees approved a Cooperative Technology Agreement with Au Gres-Sims School District for the 2025–2026 school year on a motion by Kevin Noffsinger and second by Curt Ratajczak. The board also approved the recommended list of winter sports coaches for 2025–26, and specifically hired Madyson Ahleman as girls varsity swim coach after a motion by Jeffrey Ryan.
On personnel items the board approved hiring Nicole Pack (bus driver), Arthur Neumann (transportation director), Erica Flaherty (pupil accounting specialist) and Kayla Ives (Cook's Helper). The board accepted resignations from Jeremy Joel Barza, Jim Burkhardt and Erin Luptowski and thanked them for their service.
Public comment was offered during the meeting and several community members spoke, though speakers were not named in the meeting record. No committee reports were presented. The meeting was adjourned at 5:28 p.m. following a motion by Angie Baker and second by Jeffrey Ryan.
