The county auditor presented first-tier canvass results from the Nov. 4 municipal and school elections and the Des Moines County Board of Supervisors voted to accept the first-tier totals.
The auditor said the city of Burlington race included 468 write-in votes; among those write-ins the auditor reported 187 votes for Kevin Cox and 240 for Terry Schnack but said those write-ins did not change the top-three outcomes. In West Burlington, Tony Diaz won a seat with 87 votes; in the Danville school race Jason Samples led with 110 votes to Brian Bower's 93. The auditor emphasized these are first-tier results and that a second-tier canvass next week could alter some totals, though the auditor said they did not anticipate changes that would affect the reported winners.
The board moved to accept the first-tier canvass and recorded a roll-call vote approving the motion. The auditor said full canvass results will be finalized after the second-tier review.
