Union City Borough Council voted Aug. 27 to accept a $16,679 quote from Construction Services of PA for a canoe and kayak launch at the American Legion ball field.
Borough Manager Cindy Wells reported that quotes were reviewed by the borough engineer at The EADS Group and that, because the project cost was under $23,200, formal bidding was not required. Two quotes were recorded: Blum Property Services, LLC at $18,541.50 and Construction Services of PA at $16,679.00. Councilor Osborn moved to accept the lower quote contingent on receiving an easement from the American Legion; Councilor Kerns seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The contract award is conditional on obtaining the easement from the American Legion; Wells did not provide a timeline for when the easement must be delivered. The council did not discuss a start date or grant/operating funding for installation during the meeting.
The council’s action allows the borough to proceed with securing the contract once the easement is in place.
