Union City council removes lien, approves grants and audit resolution; schedules zoning hearing

At its Aug. 27 meeting, the Union City Borough Council removed a $2,690 lien on 121 East High Street, approved seven Renaissance Grant awards totaling $23,600, accepted the Erie Area Council of Governments audit report by resolution and set a public hearing on zoning and parking amendments for Sept. 16.
Union City Borough Council met Aug. 27, 2024, at First Global Methodist Church and approved a series of routine measures including removal of a municipal lien, grant awards and an audit acceptance.
Councilor Kerns moved to remove a borough lien of approximately $2,690 on 121 East High Street; Councilor Steadman seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Borough Manager Cindy Wells said the property was donated to the Erie County Landbank and the landbank requested the lien be removed.
The council approved seven Renaissance Grant applications for the 2024–2025 period. Wells said the applications totaled $60,606 in project costs and requested $23,600 in grant funding; the Renaissance Grant fund balance was reported as $90,547.35. Councilor Steadman moved to approve the recommended awards, Councilor Osborn seconded, and the motion carried unanimously. Wells described the awards as investments to help reduce blight.
Council also passed a resolution accepting the audit report for the Erie Area Council of Governments (EACOG) after the audit was reviewed and accepted by COG members (motion by Councilor Osborn; second by Councilor Steadman). The motion carried unanimously.
Other routine business included a decision not to advertise bids on a towing ordinance and a borough letter of support for a PennDOT Charging & Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant application along the U.S. Route 6 corridor.
The council was reminded that a public hearing on an amendment to the zoning ordinance — and a separate vote on a parking ordinance amendment — will be advertised as required and is scheduled for the Sept. 16 council meeting at 6:30 p.m. The council adjourned at 6:19 p.m.
