YADKINVILLE, N.C. — The Yadkin County Board of Commissioners on March 16 approved a budget amendment to appropriate $197,668 in remaining county funds as the local match for a Great Grant awarded to Zirrus for broadband expansion.
County Manager Michael Silverman told the Board the county had previously committed $343,751 as match and had already provided a portion of those funds; the March 16 amendment appropriates the remainder so Zirrus can continue project work. The appropriation increased the appropriated fund balance for the General Fund and credited a Yadkin Valley Great Grant account.
Economic Development Director Garrett Dinkins, who previously discussed workforce and site development, spoke about the Golden Leaf Site Identification Grant being finalized with consultant recommendations due in mid‑April; Dinkins emphasized broadband expansion as an important enabling service for economic development.
Commissioner Cliff Collins moved to approve the budget amendment; Commissioner Tim Parks seconded. The motion passed 5‑0.
