Council authorizes negotiation with prospective town manager and approves multiple appointments

On July 23 the Newington Town Council authorized Randy Frank Consulting LLC to enter into negotiations with a prospective town manager candidate on behalf of the town, with the council reserving final approval of any proposed employment contract.
The motion to authorize negotiations passed on a roll-call vote that council members recorded as unanimous. Council members emphasized the sensitivity of candidate resumes and the need to protect applicants while still maintaining public trust in the hiring process.
Council also approved a slate of appointments to local boards and commissions to fill vacancies (Conservation/Inland Wetlands alternate, Board of Assessment Appeals, Building Code Board of Appeals member, Environmental Quality Commission appointment and others). The motions carrying those appointments were approved unanimously.
Separately, the council approved property tax refunds totaling $243.45 as certified by the revenue collector.
No contract was approved at the meeting; councilors said the council will review any proposed employment contract before a final appointment is made.
