Miguel Gautier Jr., Executive Director of District Operations for the New London School District, told the School Facilities & Program Design Committee on Oct. 15 that the District will move forward with replacing interior doors at North Campus and pursue a change order with the architect to cover the roughly $168,000 cost.
Gautier said the doors should be installed in approximately four weeks and that the District plans to bring the cost to the architect for review. He described the door replacement as a response to "major issues" identified during recent inspections and meetings of the School Maintenance and Building Committee.
Committee members did not vote on the change order during this meeting; Mr. Gautier characterized the report as an update and a plan to proceed with the purchase and installation. He also reported persistent problems with water fountains at North Campus that continued despite multiple repairs. According to Gautier, the vendor attributed failures to COVID-era modules that were not quality-checked and agreed to supply new water fountains; he warned that future failures may not be covered by warranty.
The committee did not record additional decisions about funding source or contract amendments at the meeting. Members thanked staff for their work on construction closeout and deferred further direction to the School Maintenance and Building Committee and the project architect.
