Commission recommends returning Ward 2 polling places to Cooper Center for accessibility

Commissioners reviewed a staff recommendation to return Ward 2 polling locations (Precincts 2 and 3) to the new Cooper Center now that construction is complete. Staff said the Cooper Center is fully ADA compliant and is near the precincts' historical location.
"It's now 100% ADA compliant and it's utilizing a new space that's relatively nearby and restoring the original voting location," a staff member said. Commissioners asked about parking, proximity to the schools, and whether councilors were consulted; staff said prior outreach had been done and the programs and services committee would vote on the recommendation before the full council.
A motion to recommend the change passed unanimously. The commission asked staff to add the recommendation as a footnote and noted the full council will have the opportunity to weigh in when the item is docketed for its meeting.
Next steps: the recommendation will go to the programs and services committee and, if approved there, to the full city council for final action.
