Beaman council tables snow-removal bids, directs follow-up on 104 Center Street; pickleball courts ready, Trick-or-Treat set

The Beaman City Council handled several routine business items at its Oct. 8, 2025 meeting. Council Member Jason Scafferi moved to table consideration of snow-removal bids until the city attorney provides clarification; Council Member Brandon Schleisman seconded and the motion passed on a 5-0 vote.
Council discussed the disposition of the property at 104 Center Street. Council Member Jason Scafferi agreed to consult with a contact to arrange a market analysis on the parcel's value; no formal sale or disposition was approved at the meeting.
City Clerk Denise Hoy reported that the Butler-Grundy County Development Board will meet in October to approve a floor plan for a home to be placed on the Wadeloup as part of the Homes for Iowa program.
The council was also advised that demolition work at 209 Main Street is awaiting the contractor (referred to as ‘Boulder’ in the minutes). Council directed the city clerk to ask the contractor whether the Hitchcock Block at the top of the building could be saved during demolition.
Council noted the two new pickleball courts are complete and ready for play (Tennis Surfaces of Iowa LLC, city share $2,920.55). The council set Trick-or-Treat night for Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, from 5–7 PM on a motion by Council Member Deb Ashton seconded by Council Member Brandon Schleisman; the motion passed with five ayes.
The meeting record also includes the city's itemized expenses for 09/11/2025–10/08/2025 totaling $49,360.28 and total revenues for September 2025 of $25,988.95. Notable line items in the expenses list include MacQueen Fire Supplies ($19,207.31) and a $5,500 entry to KWD, LLC for demolition of 104 Center Street.
